 a gentle invitation to revisit your Bug-Out Bag and keep it fresh and well stocked... |
Re: Got your Bug-Out Bag Handy?
I went on a long drive with the family over break and me and junior restocked the car survival kit. Fun exercise if nothing else. We ended up using a couple of the "emergency ponchos" at the park in the rain.
Anyhow I pitched the old protein bars that looked like hell and put some new ones in. Reorganized stuff -- |
Re: Got your Bug-Out Bag Handy?
I need to replace the water bottles and MREs that have been in the bag for almost a year now. I keep forgetting.

Golite gear is fine equipment but its way overpriced. I bought an 8 x 10 siltarp @ campmor for 1/3 the price. |

Re: Got your Bug-Out Bag Handy?
Just curious, for those of you who feel a bug-out bag is prudent, why don't you relocate to a place further out of town? I'm not talking about moving to the Idaho wilderness, just say 10-30 miles out of town, a reasonable commute if you're employed in the city, and a good distance away from most wandering zombies and the heaviest fallout when we hit an inevitable bump.
While a bug-out bag is prudent, the best plan is to stay put in most cases, if you have a reasonable place to stay put. Your bug-out bag might best be kept in your office cubicle to help you get home if an event occurs during work hours. Reality |

Re: Got your Bug-Out Bag Handy?
Have one here and one buried 3/4 of a mile away. Both with all weather clothes, simple tarp tent, hex stove 15000 calories of food, etc.etc.etc. in a 15 pound pack. Have a 55 gallon plastic screw top barrel buried full of stuff at a 15' trailer I have on 20 wooded acres about 30 miles out of town. Maybe 6-8 months worth of simple foods stored here at the house. We will see~~~

Re: Got your Bug-Out Bag Handy?
My bug-out bag is always with me, and the truck is always stocked with extra supplies. It's a quad-cab, and I keep the area under the rear seat packed tight with "stuff".
My fear is that something happens while I'm away from home. All my preps are to be used to get me to the house, not away from it. I'm 15 miles out of town, and town is only 4,000 people. Log home on 20 acres, half wooded, with a spring-fed pond full of fish. If something was to happen right now, I have no doubt that I can close the gate on my road and not be in need of anything at all for at least a year. Food, fuel, supplies, I think we're set. But as everyone says, you always think of something else. Anyway, is it acceptable to consider it a bug-in bag if you're using it to get home, instead of getting away from home? |
